Tremayne Quay

Secret Beauty Spot with a ROYAL story!

  • 2.75 miles approx, there and back

  • Country and creekside

  • Secluded picnic spot

We wanted to find out if it was worth visiting Tremayne Quay. This quay was built in 1846 for a Royal visit that never happened!

Sir Richard Vyvyan owned the area and in anticipation of the royal visit rebuilt the quay, planted a woodland and laid a substantial carriageway from his house and estate to the quay. When bad weather came in, the royal visit was abandoned.

Today the woodland and quay are owned by the National Trust who maintain public access. The carriageway runs for about 3/4 of a mile from a small parking area, following the creekside and offers a secret, secluded place to walk and take a picnic.

Our favourite bit of the walk is...

...the tranquility and peacefulness of this remote spot!
