Short Break in Cornwall
What to do, where to eat and how much will it cost May 2026

This short break is designed for a 48 hour stay in Cornwall. We have assumed you will have your own transport and are reasonably fit and mobile.

Overnight choice 1:
Port Isaac

Port Isaac is a small village on the north coast of Cornwall, made famous as the real life village of Port Wenn where Doc Martin had his surgery. It is also the birthplace of The Fisherman's Friends sea shanty band and subsequent movie. 

The village is stunningly beautiful, with it's narrow streets, quaint cottages and a perfect harbour. It is filled with the cottages and venues used in both productions.

 Where to stay

There are a few hotels for bed and breakfast

  • The Old School

  • The Slipway

  • Gaverne Hotel

  • Outlaw's Guest House

Prices range from £140-170 per night.

There are bountiful homes to rent for longer breaks. Campsites offer pitches from £22 per night.​

 

Where to eat

All of the above venues offer evening meals ranging from £30-75 per head. Nathan Outlaw has two venues in Port Isaac specialising in seafood.

Overnight choice 2: Padstow

Padstow is a harbour town on the north coast of Cornwall. For over 50 years, Rick Stein has had a huge influence on the town. He owns a hotel and bistro, fish and chip shop, Deli, and Seafood Restaurant. Paul Ainsworth also has a restaurant in the town. There are several pubs offering traditional ales and food. Any 'foodie' would be in foodie heaven in Padstow!

  • Harbour Hotel

  • Old Custom House

All of the venues already mentioned offer evening meals. There is also Rick Stein's fish and chip shop and several other fish and chip take aways, and other pubs and restaurants that offer evening meals.
