 Popular Cornish Coves and Beaches

Here is a selection of the more popular beaches for family days out. They have parking, toilets and cafes nearby.

Crantock

Crantock is on the west bank of the River Gannel near Newquay. It is a quaint village with thatched cottages, a church and pub. It also has one of the most beatuiful beaches on the north coast of Cornwall.


Kynance Cove

With its white sand and stunning rock formations, Kynance Cove has been considered one of Cornwall's, if not the UK's, best beaches, winning a top 10 place in many surveys. 


The cove is owned and managed by the National Trust. It is immensely popular and becomes extremely busy in  peak season. 

Porthcurno

Porthcurno is a cove situated on the south coast of the Penwith Peninsula, beyond Penzance. It is famous for its golden sand and turquoise water making it one of Cornwall's most visited beaches.


The Minack Theatre is set on the clifftop nearby and the Telegraph Museum is situated within the valley.

Fistral, Newquay

Fistral Beach is renowned for its surfing. Being close to the town of Newquay it is immensely popular. Flanked by the Headland Hotel in the east and Pentire in the west, it is has a deep, gently sloped beach at low tide with pale, golden sand. 

Perranporth

Perranporth Beach is on the north coast of Cornwall between Newquay and Hayle. It is a huge, sandy beach especially at low tide. It is excellent for family beach days and great for swimming and surfing. It has a seasonal lifeguard. The town of Perranporth is nearby with shops, cafes and pubs. It gets busy in the summer season. 

Sennen Cove

Sennen Cove is in the far west of Cornwall. It has a large, pale sandy beach which is ideal for learning to surf or simply paddle or walk your dog. It is about 3 miles from Land's End and, on a clear day, you can see the Isles of Scilly. 

Gwithian

Situated near Hayle, Gwithian offers great opportunites for surfing and other water sports. The coastline in this area  is stunningly beautiful to walk all year, with towans to explore and Godrevy Lighthouse sitting dramtically just off shore. 

Porthcothan

Porthcothan is a deep sandy cove on the north coast of Cornwall. It is good for surfing and the sand makes excellent sandcastles. Flanked by dunes and with a gentle river meandering through it, the beach is ideal for family beach days.

St Ives

St Ives is surrounded on three sides by the sea and has several beaches. Porthmeor on the north coast has the best surfing. Porthminster is more tranquil and perfect for family days out.
