St Ives

St Ives is surrounded on three sides by the sea and has several beaches. Porthmeor on the north coast has the best surfing. Porthminster is more tranquil and perfect for family days out. 

What are the beaches like?

There are at least 4 beachs in St Ives: Porthminster b the train station, Harbour Beach, Porthgwidden and Porthmeor near the Tate Gallery.


Porthminster has cafes, toiets and pitch and put. It is ideal for family beach days. Harbour Beach has fishing and pleasure boats and a small area of beach. Porthgwidden is  flanked by beach huts. There is a cafe, small car park and toilets. Porthminster faces the north coast and is ideal for surfing. It is lifeguarded in season.

 

Amenities and access

St Ives offers plenty of choice for eating, and there a number of public loos, particularly near the beaches although some of these are now accessed by card payment only. 


Access to Porthminster is via steps and a tarmaced slope. Harbour Beach is easily accessed from the road. Porthgwidden and Porthmeor have a steep slope to a soft, sandy beach.
