
Helston
Helston is a working town with the Royal Navy Air base Culdrose nearby. The boating lake, Cornish Folk Museum and Flora Day make it well worth a visit.

The cafe near the boating lake is a very popular venue. The town has several pubs in the main street, also cafes and local bakeries offering pasties. The nearby town of Porthleven has an annual food festival.

Beaches
Helston is an inland town and does not have a beach. However the Lizard Peninsula is nearby, with the infamous Kynance Cove and other beaches like Gunwalloe, Poldhu, Polurrian and Kennack Sands.
Things to Do
Helston has an annual festival called Flora Day. The whole town is bedecked with bluebells and lilly of the valley and there is dancing in the street. The town has a fantastic heritage museum giving a glimpse into Cornish life. It has a cinema and the boating lake hires pedalos.
Our Perfect Day...
...would start with a coffee and cake in the boating lake cafe and a browse through the Museum of Cornish Life. Followed by a brisk walk to Porthleven through the Penrose estate finished up with a pub meal.
