Redruth

Redruth is a town rich in mining history. Once it was the richest town in Cornwall with tin and copper deposits being extracted from mines in and around the town. Local attractions include The Gold Centre, and Kresen Kernow that holds the County Records Archive. A walk to Carn Brea Monument is rewarded with stunning views of the coast from St Ives to St Agnes.

The Buttermarket in Redruth offers a diverse selection of pop up cafes and restaurants. Nearby Carn Brea Castle has a restaurant offering Portuguese food and the Gold Centre serves breakfast on a Cornish shovel.

Beaches

Redruth is an inland town and, although it does not have a beach, only 10 minutes away, Portreath and Porthtowan on the nearby north coast both offer excellent surfing and sandy beaches.

  • Redruth's mining heritage is preserved in nearby Pool, where the National Trust runs East Pool Mine offering guided tours around one of Cornwall's largest mines. 

  • The Gold Centre offers the opportunity to explore an old tin streaming works. 

  • If you are researching your family links to Cornwall, Kresen Kernow holds the County Archive including parish records and many mine related assets. 

  • Krowji is Cornwall's largest creative hub providing workspaces for local artist some of whom offer workshops.

Our Perfect Day...

..would start by arriving at Redruth train station and strolling down the high street. From here we would walk to Carn Brea to enjoy the views before reruning and having a meal at the Buttermarket.
