Whispsiderry and Porth

Romantic and Wild!

  • 4 miles approx, circular walk

  • Coastal

  • Pub, Cafes & Toilets

Walk from the village of St Columb Minor to Whipsiderry Cove and Porth Beach. Along the way, pass one of the oldest houses in Cornwall before arriving at the magnificent, wild and romantic cove of Whipsiderry.

Whipsiderry is named after the crane system called a 'whip and derrick' that hauled stone and metallic ores, including tin, copper and silver from the mining activities in the 19th century.

Unusually for Cornwall, white marble was also mined here creating vast caves and caverns on the beach. We follow the South West Coast Path to the next cove, Porth before making our way back to St Columb Minor along footpaths.

Our favourite bit of the walk is...

...exploring Whipsiderry and dicovering the romantic, beautiful cove!
